In the month of October 1968, Bishop Lerony English and Evangelist (Mother) English, his wife opened a fellowship in their residence at 3831 Northwest 5th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During this time, the Lord strengthened and guided them in their determination and endeavors to serve him. As the Lord increased the membership, a building was needed for worship.
On February 16, 1969 Bishop and Mother English answered the call and leading of God to establish Emmanuel House of Prayer, Inc., in a small rented storefront building at 409-1/2 Northwest 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Although the devil tried in every way to defeat, there were great outpourings of the Holy Spirit. All were able to see and experience the blessings of God. So, mighty grew the Word – so mightily grew the church.
On November 30, 1973, the Holy Spirit moved on Bishop English’s heart to build a permanent structure for our place of worship. Thus, our beautiful edifice was constructed at 2820 Northwest 7th Court, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As the ministry grew, expansion was evident. Construction began on the second phase. In 1975, on the second anniversary of the original building, the larger edifice was dedicated. As time passed, other additions were necessary to meet the needs of the ministry. A third phase of expansion was completed in 1982, which included another enlargement of the sanctuary, along with kitchens, dressing rooms, the Pastor’s Office, a formal dining room and additional restrooms.
Throughout the years, the Lord has continuously blessed us both spiritually and temporally. We give thanks and praises to God through His son Jesus Christ for His strength and guidance as we strive to seek and reach souls for His kingdom by preaching and spreading the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
